A whopping 96% of workers are looking for a new position in 2023. They are largely looking for better pay, according to a recent report by jobs site Monster.com. Whether by choice or necessity, many workers will change jobs in the months ahead.
Wage Growth
Even the historical high wage growth isn’t keeping up with the increased cost of living. Which is still up 6.5% from a year ago, and this is leaving more workers unsatisfied with their pay. Nearly half, or 40%, of job seekers said they need a higher income due to inflation and rising expenses.
Job Hopping
Job-hopping is widely considered the best way to improve your career prospects and pay. In fact, the difference in wage growth for job switchers compared to those who stay in their current role is at a record high. The latest data shows job-switchers have seen 7.7% wage growth as of November. However, Citing data from the Atlanta Federal Reserve, workers who have stayed in their jobs have seen a 5.5% wage growth.

The first quarter of the year is always a good time to look because fiscal budgets have been replenished. But when it comes to finding a better job, pay isn’t everything. According to a new report not all jobs are vulnerable to a possible downturn. Blue-collar workers just might have more job-security that white-collar roles. As of November 2022, job openings ticked up for manufacturing, professional and business services. Job-seekers are approaching 2023 by going “back to basics” and betting on jobs with more proven security.
