New Year New Resume New Job

Jobs

A new year is upon us. You have just refreshed your resume and uploaded it onto reputable job boards. The next step is to find that new “dream job”.  Finding that new dream job is a breeze… said no one, ever. Finding that perfect job is stressful, but that stress won’t last forever.  Employers are constantly tweaking and refining ways to attract the best candidates. So with a new year, a new resume you will be sure to find that new job!

Dream Job

A dream job should never feel out of reach.  Whether you’re fresh out of college and searching for that first real position or find yourself without full-time employment.  Even if you want to level up your current job title, these tips will streamline the process.

Research

Make a list of at least ten target companies you would love to walk into every day. Then, begin researching each company’s history, their employee size, past press, etc. This can easily be done with a simple Google search.  Then go on LinkedIn and search for their current and past employees. Past job experience, level of education, and volunteerism will paint a picture as to the sort of employees that company values.

Plan – Get organized

Being organized will help you from feeling overwhelmed with the job search process. Break down the job search into smaller, more manageable tasks. This will make the process less daunting and put you in control.  Make a list of job postings you’re applying for, with information like interview dates, contact details, and interview questions you’d like to ask.

Keep your perspective

Your job search may take some time but, it won’t last forever.  You might feel discouraged when you receive rejections letters or things don’t progress as you would like.  But finding that new dream job doesn’t happen overnight.

Social Media Accounts

Follow that ‘dream company’ via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and even Snapchat.  You will have a much higher likelihood to know when a job-ad is posted if you’re constantly up-to-date on all of their social media platforms.

Like Share and Retweet

Interact with your targeted companies by liking, sharing and retweeting.  Occasionally leave a thoughtful, well-formulated comment on their social pages.  You will begin to wedge your way onto certain employee’s radars.  Make sure you follow and subscribe to their blogs and newsletters as well.

Get comfortable searching outside of your comfort zone for that dream job.  Perhaps by using these tips you just might open new opportunities that simply scouring a job board would not.
