Manufacturing continues to automate, creating exciting new opportunities for ambitious candidates. One hot role today is CNC machine operator. But what exactly do they do all day, and how can you get started? Let’s take a look.
CNC is an acronym for computer numerical control. As a CNC machine operator, you’ll be responsible for precision CNC machinery, such as lathes, presses, and drills. In most cases, a CNC machinist will program each job, and then you’ll run the machine while keeping a close eye on the results. CNC operators often need to make small adjustments to ensure that the finished product is within specs.
CNC machine operator is generally considered an entry level role. As you gain skills and experience, you can likely move into a CNC machinist position. This comes with heightened responsibilities such as machinery programming and maintenance.
