The Accidental Heir

The Accidental Heir

Queen Elizabeth II

A hush went over the crowd today when the announcement filtered through. Everyone was glued to their phones.  The crowd, from all over the world, started whispering the news to each other.  Then there was a hush in the crowd.  There was shock. There were tears.  She wasn’t born to be Queen but she was indeed the accidental heir that defined the phrase dedication to service.

A Reign that defined an Era

She became queen by a twist of fate but now on September 8, 2022 at age 96, Elizabeth II has passed.   Queen Elizabeth will be remembered for many things but will first be known as Britain’s longest-serving monarch, in a reign spanning the post-war era through to the digital age, more than 70 years.  Queen Elizabeth reigned longer than her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria, who held the throne for 63 years and 216 days.  She was more than a monarch.  She defined an Era…

Married for Love

In 1947, at the age of 21 Elizabeth married the man she had been smitten with for years. The Greek-born British naval officer Philip Mountbatten, who was a distant cousin.  They met at a wedding in 1934 when Elizabeth was just 8 years old.  But first flames of romance were kindled in 1939 when she was 13 and he was 18 years of age.

Long Live the King

His Majesty King Charles says the death of his “beloved mother”, Queen Elizabeth II, will be deeply felt by countless people around the world.  Her presence will be missed.  How will historians write King Charles’ Reign?  Long Live the King…
