Stress Awareness Month

Stress Awareness Month April 2022

STRESS AWARENESS MONTH is an annual designation observed in April.  Ever been in a situation that was a little (or a lot) overwhelming?  Deadlines approaching with a mile-long to-do list? Or looking for that new job with no resume?  Well, you’re not alone!  We all feel stressed from time to time.  A little bit of stress isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  Too much though can be detrimental to our emotional and physical health. Let’s try to recognize the difference between good and bad stress during this year’s Stress Awareness Month, then try to find your happy place within the madness we call everyday life.

Resume Stress

Resumes are not written, they are built!  Getting a job can be hard for anyone.  So it can be particularly challenging if you have no experience in the field you want to work in. That is why marketing yourself effectively within your resume is so vital.  But, what if you don’t have related job experience?

  • The answer: Focus on transferable skills and volunteer work. Also, it would be a good idea to drop in a recommendation or two from people who can vouch for qualities such as your work ethic, demeanor, or your ability to work as part of a team.

While writing  your resume, always keep in mind that it’s your personal marketing tool.  So, put yourself in the best possible position to land that interview.

Don’t be modest! Show each prospective employer that you understand their needs and how you are equipped to fulfill them. Help them see the benefits they’ll gain from hiring you. That’s very important in today’s economy, and even more so for the candidate who lacks direct experience.

Haven’t Worked in Years….

What if you haven’t worked in years?  Say, you are a housewife, and stayed home for 18 years to raise your children.  And now you are looking to return to work, and wondering, “What do I say on my resume, and where do I start?” Let me answer that question this way, and offer some tips if you are looking to make the leap back into (paid) work after a long time away.

  • Summarize your work experience such as: 5 years as a secretary at one company; 8 years of general clerical experience at three previous employers (including 4 years in the U.S. Army), etc.
