15 Tips to Getting the Job You Want for 2015!


  1. Dress to impress at your interview. It does not matter what job you’re interviewing for, you only get one chance to make a first impression!
  2. Update your resume! Make sure it’s error free. Make sure all information is accurate, and your email address is professional and includes your name.
  3. Be able to explain why you made changes in jobs and gaps in your employment.
  4. Know how to shake a hand!  It’s important for everyone to know how to give a confident firm hand shake and look at your interviewer with confidence!
  5. Be 15 minutes early to your interview!  Employers often note when people arrive for their interviews and turn them away if they’re late!
  6. Better yourself!  Find ways to make yourself employable through reading, taking  classes, or learning a trade. Be valuable to an employer!
  7. Know WHY a company should hire you!  Make a list of 5 reasons you should be hired – memorize them!
  8. Before an interview, research the company. Know what they do, the product or service they offer.
  9. Make eye contact when speaking!  It lets them know you are interested in what is being said and that you are engaged in the interview!\
  10. Cater your resume to the job you are applying for. Use some of the same key words that the employer used in their job criteria.
  11. Keep it professional during your interview!  Steer away from personal aspects of your life.
  12. Do not wear strong perfume or cologne. No gaudy or chunky jewelry at an interview – these things can distract your interviewer away from you!
  13. Make sure your voicemail is set up and your message is professional and clear.
  14. Have good phone etiquette when answering your personal phone. Be polite and always expect the number that you do not recognize to possibly be an employer offering you a job!
  15. Always follow up with a Thank You letter or email after a formal interview!
